DHAKA – President M Abdul Hamid yesterday sought Bangladesh’s expanded trade and investment ties with European Union (EU) as its outgoing ambassador and head of delegation Pierre Mayaudon called on him at Bangabhaban yesterday.
“The EU is a tested friend and has been our (Bangladesh’s) largest export destination, a major source of foreign investment and development partner,” President’s Press Secretary M Joynal Abedin quoted him as telling the envoy.
The President, he said, expressed his happiness over the existing excellent bilateral relations with EU and expected it to be boosted further in near future.
“The President appreciated EU for extending duty and quota-free access of Bangladeshi products under its Everything but Arms (EBA) arrangement calling it to be crucial for Bangladesh’s socio-economic development,” the Bangabhaban spokesman said.
President Hamid congratulated the EU envoy for his successful tenure in Bangladesh while Mayaudon expressed his gratitude to him for extending all cooperation in discharging his duty.
Secretaries concerned to the President were present during the call on.
